From form to function (2012).
In 2011, I. R. Bach was commissioned by NASA’s Center for Chemical Evolution to have conversations with its leading scientists about the origin of life. The result is a.series of works that sketch a theory of life. Bach bridges science and art within the individual thought process with an outcome that oscillates between scientific speculation and philosophical proposition. The aesthetics nurture from the natural history museum diorama and the empiricism of 19th century naturalists like Ernst Haeckel and D'Arcy Wentworth Thompson. All works were produced using mostly office, lab, school and home supplies to stress the fact that the answer to life’s mysteries lays within our grasp and it is only a change of perspective what is needed.
